Anytime you can please visit the office and them tell the Legislature that they are going to cause a bad trainwreck-- Thanks Doug

To Whom It May Concern,

On Wednesday, April 15th, 2015 the Joint Finance Committee voted 12 to 4 to approve the Governor’s budget for the Office of the Secretary of State.

It would:

Reduce Office of the Secretary of State staff to only one employee.

  • Relocate the Office to a small space (of about 300 square feet) in the basement of the Capitol.

  • Drastically reduce agency operational funding.

  • Eliminate long-standing systems that support digital databases historically available to the public via the agency website.

This budget, if passed by a vote of the entire legislature, will mean:

Major disruptions in the services this Office provides.

  • Lengthy delays in processing/replying to requests.

  • Days when the office must be closed to the public due to staff shortages.

  • Delays in responding to phone calls, voice mail, e-mails and other correspondence.

  • Confusion and difficulty for the public in locating the Office.

Please know that I have fought hard to oppose these changes.   If this happens, I and my one coworker will not be the ones to blame.  Fair warning.

I thought you should be aware of the situation.
